Future Fragments
Þorgerður Ólafsdóttir
Þorgerður Ólafsdóttir presents her artistic investigation into the anthropocene and conceptions of cultural and natural inheritance.
The exhibition includes art work and various found objects from nature, large and small, that are interwoven with the history and influence of humans, reaching far beyond the Earth’s celestial sphere. The origins of the project go back to 2014 when Þorgerður assisted the Institute of Archeology in registering objects found during an excavation in Mývatnssveit. She received a small, red plastic fragment with an inscrutable history that sparked the beginning of her collaboration with the National Museum. This exhibition spans a ten-year process of gathering objects that defy definition.
