The horse, the girl, and the highlands

Artist Michelle Bird Celebrates a Decade in Iceland with Her Series: “The Horse, The Girl, and The Highlands”
Michelle Bird marks the 10th anniversary of her life in Iceland with her series of paintings and drawings that embody the essence of Iceland. Titled “The Horse, The Girl, and The Highlands,” this collection weaves together 3 recurring elements as in a mantra: the spirited horse, the independent woman, and the untamed wilderness. These motifs, appearing in most of her paintings, are like a mystical trinity, and evoke the raw, transcendent beauty of Iceland.
Artist Michelle
Bird has been painting for more than 40 years and has exhibited in galleries and museums throughout Europe and the US.
She has received grants and prizes in Iceland from SSV and List Fyrir Alla. Most recently one of her pieces has been selected for the Lunar Codex art archive on the moon. Based in Iceland Michelle has created art experiences in the west of Iceland for 10 years and has now since moved to the south where she works at Gallery Listasel and created art from her home on the farm in Fljotsholar.
