To Be a Being
Brynhildur Kristinsdóttir
“The Beings have been with me since I visited Museo della Statue Stele Lunigianesi in Pontremoli, Italy 1990. The primitive sculptures had a big effect on me and have been with me ever since. In my work I am looking at the expansion of the painting as well as changing it from flatness into three-dimensional work. I contemplate what is inside and outside the picture-form and how it is connected to the environment. Lately I have more often chosen to exhibit my work outdoors.” Brynhildur Kristinsdóttir (born 1965) works in diverse media, each time according to the subject matter. She has taught visual art and collaborated with various artists, done stage design and costumes for performances and dance. Kristinsdóttir studied visual art at Akureyri School of Visual Arts and The Icelandic College of Art and Crafts. She finished Teacher Education at The University of Akureyri and a master’s degree in arts education at University of the Arts in 2022.
