You Hildur That?

Hildur Ása Henrýsdóttir

Þú Hildur það?

Hildur Ása Henrýsdóttir (b. 1987) grew up in Þórshöfn, Langanes. She holds a BA in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts (2016) and a BA in Contemporary Studies from the University of Akureyri. Hildur works with painting, sculpture, and performance. Her work has been widely exhibited, including at Hafnarborg, Gerðarsafn, the Akureyri Art Museum, and in shows in Berlin, London, and Antwerp.

Through her art, Hildur offers an honest perspective on the human experience. She deconstructs ideals of perfection and explores the personal connections people form—both physical and emotional. Her work candidly addresses intimate themes, free from taboo, and embraces imperfection. In doing so, she blurs the boundaries between what is considered private and what is socially accepted.

Hildur often includes herself in her works, examining her own body and embarking on introspective journeys. She explores the body as a meeting place between the external physical world and the inner self—a space where we encounter others and engage in communication. Her work delves into the relationships we have with ourselves and with others, and how these interactions shape us and those around us. Hildur investigates the limits of the individual by questioning the line between the public and the personal.
