Y Gallery
Y Gallery organizes exhibitions in its gallery space located in a 70’s gas station underneath an apartment block in downtown Kópavogur, Iceland. The house was designed by architect Benjamín Magnússon in the seventies and imagined as a ‚cité‘ to encompass all of societies needs with over two hundred apartments combined with retail housing, a rooftop park (the radial park is situated on top of the garage, a nod to Le Corbusier's La Cité Radieuse), underground parking completed with a gas station in the basement.
Y emphasizes three dimentional work, installations and sculptures since the architecture is best suited to exhibitions of that nature with windows along three sides of the exhibition space. Along with its gallery operations Y also organizes exhibition projects in public space.
