From idea to execution
Jóhanna Kristbjörg Sigurðardóttir
At Kling & Bang, Jóhanna Kristbjörg Sigurðardóttir shows new works that are based on figurative and symbolic language, where the artist uses both recognisable lines and shapes, as well as simple metaphors as tools to bring out the meaning and relationship between the paintings, sculptures, photography and videos in the exhibition.
Jóhanna places great emphasis on the starting point of works, where she examines the context of ideas and their significance, while allowing the context of the whole to be open to interpretation.
In this way, the language of the exhibition is shaped by the viewer's experience, movement and interpretation.
Jóhanna lives big part of the year in Antwerp, Belgium, where she completed her master's degree from KASK & Conservatorium in 2013 as well as postgraduate studies from HISK 2015, she currently works as a guest professor at the installation and painting department of KASK & Conservatorium, Ghent, Belgium.
Jóhanna has shown her work internationally, for example at Kunsthalle São Paulo. São Paulo, Brazil, S.M.A.K. Gent. Belgium, Andersen's Contemporary, Copenhagen, Hafnarborg. Hafnarfjordur. Iceland, Ornis A. Gallery, Amsterdam, Netherlands, De Warande, Turnhout, Belgium og Kling & Bang, Reykjavík, Iceland.
