Ísleifur Sesselíus Konráðsson

The foundation of all artistic creation is sincerity – to express ideas, experiences and feelings without pretense. Isleifur Konradsson didn’t merely paint the surface of objects, he looked inwards, he pierced into the core of the countryside. His brushwork is reminiscent of delicate embroidery with decorative splashes and tempered colour, except for his signature, which reveals the painter’s enthusiasm. Here we see well cultivated land – ornate, simple shapes where the magic of everyday life is brought to light.
In 1962, when Konradsson was over seventy years old, the floodgates of creativity opened for him, and over the next decade he held eight solo exhibitions where he exhibited over 200 paintings. This is the first time in over 50 years since so many of Konradsson's works have been gathered and exhibited. His works express unequivocal sincerity towards his subjects – whether he painted known places or imagery of the artist's fictional past; depicting heath lakes, rock formations, pavilions, sail boats and palaces.
