Sigríður Björnsdóttir

Fótógrömm

The visual artist and art therapist Sigríður Björnsdóttir opens a solo exhibition on July 3rd at Mokka-Kaffi, where she will showcase works from the year 1959. The pieces are created using the photogram technique – a photographic method in which no camera is used. Instead, shapes or objects are placed on light-sensitive paper and briefly exposed to light. This process results in dark areas on a light background.

Sigríður held her first solo exhibition at Mokka-Kaffi in 1967 and has since exhibited widely, both in Iceland and abroad.

In 2020, an extensive retrospective publication of her artwork from the period 1950–2019 was released, and in 2023 the book Art Can Heal was published, focusing on her life’s work as an art therapist. In 2024, the book Dieter Roth in My Life – Memories was released, where she shares personal memories from her marriage to the artist Dieter Roth.
