Salt of a New Earth
Hayden Dunham
Inside Salt of a New Earth, process reigns. Hayden Dunham is all consumed by a new alchemist code. Not only by conjuring up a new material in the hopes of counterbalancing aluminum contamination but also transmuting the way it’s perceived and related to. You can experience their journey in the exhibition through the evaporative, ever-changing artworks in the show. SLYPH, a transparent shape-shifter slinked into the exhibition, silently transforms from liquid into solid. The Bridge makes a loop from the sky to the ground from the high ceiling to a puddle on the floor. Luminous wall bound watercolors hold vertical imprints with enmeshed compositions. Begin Again, is the cloud that becomes rain, leaving a deposit on earth, only to evaporate and return upwards again. When we Begin Again, what is left is material and what is released is immaterial. Salt of a New Earth transmutes us, transports us and connects us. When we embody this cycle we too become the salt of a new earth. This is an invitation, one where we are never completely destroyed, nor created, but can transmute into something else.
